A. "Walter" Diers

May 8, 1919 — January 28, 2016

Adolph Walter Diers was born on May 8, 1919 on a farm near Hunter, Kansas, the son of Paul and Christina Schurr Diers. He died on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 20 days.
Walt, as he was known, grew up and attended the Center School, before working on the family farmstead.
On June 4, 1933, he was confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church, and his Lutheran faith would remain strong for the remainder of his life.
In 1942, he entered the United States Army Air Force, and was granted a furlough to come home to help on the farm. During that time, on March 28, 1943, he was united in marriage with Lois A. Davey of Cawker City. Four children were born to this union, which lasted more than 62 years until her death in August, 2005.
He returned to the service until his discharge in 1945, when they moved to the farm near Cawker City, and he and Lois worked hand in hand on the farm. Then, in 1984, they moved to their home east of town.
In addition to his wife Lois, he was preceded in death by his parents; son Leon; sisters, Rosina, Bertha, and Emma; and brothers, Albert, Edward, and Richard.
Walter is survived by his sons, Royal (Beverly) Diers of McPherson, and Enos (Bonnie) Diers of Cawker City; his daughter Teresa (Kevin) Peterson of Asherville; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; special friend, Dorothy Morris of Clyde; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Thursday, February 4 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Downs followed by burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 PM Wednesday at the Waconda Funeral Chapel in Cawker City. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or the Church.
