Albert Neil Gordanier

May 31, 1930 — July 25, 2016

Albert Neil Gordanier was born May 31, 1930 to Arville and Cassie Black Gordanier on a farm south of Randall, Kansas. He departed this life of 86 years, 1 month, and 25 days early Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Regency Village Care Center in Webster, Texas.

Neil, as everyone knew and loved him, grew up on the farm homesteaded by his great grandfather, James Gordanier. He, along with his brother Wayne and sister Betty attended Pleasant Prairie grade school. Neil graduated from Randall High School and then left to join the United States Army.

He married Leonore (Lee) Brindle in 1952. Four sons, Gary, Charles, John and Jeffrey were born to this union. They moved to Wichita where he managed a Texaco service station for several years before becoming an aircraft jig builder for Boeing, Cessna, and Learjet.

In 1968, he brought his family back to live in his beloved hometown of Randall. He loved the land, the people, and his life in Randall where he worked as the City Man, maintaining the city and its infrastructure for 25 years. He enjoyed a wide variety of responsibilities which included tornado watch sentinel, as city marshal in simpler times, a volunteer fireman and fire station equipment custodian maintaining city streets and upkeep of the water, sewer systems, and parks. He enjoyed being with his sons in Boy Scouts and delighted in serving as Scoutmaster; taking the family to the lake boating, and helping his father on the farm.

When Neil retired, they purchased an RV and became "winter Texans", carrying on a tradition started by his grandfather Bert in the 1940's. Neil and Lee traveled for 18 years to the southern tip of Texas, where they lived in a large RV park and took many trips to the beaches in Corpus Christi and occasionally to Mexico, but mainly they enjoyed the warm winter weather. Once back home in Randall, Neil spent many hours rocking on their front porch swing with a four legged companion and his daily talks over coffee at the COOP gas station.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Wayne.

Neil is survived by his wife Lee; four sons Gary and wife Jane of League City, TX, Charles of Kansas City, KS, John and wife Kimie of Tehachapi, CA, Jeffrey and wife Cindy of Lenexa, KS; his sister Betty Kibbe and husband Gordon of Emerald Hills, CA; sister-in-law Lina of Fremont, CA; three grandchildren Kimberly Buttrum and husband Jon, Kayla and Joshua Gordanier, two great grandchildren Calvin and Brooks Buttrum along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the Randall Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Randall Community Center. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home.
