Albert Frank Schaffer was born on September 27, 1918 on a farm north of Beloit, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Yeager Schaffer. He died on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 92 years, 5 months, and 18 days.
Albert grew up in the Beloit area and attended the Springfield Country School before attending and graduating from St. John's High School in 1937.
He served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945, and was in the 951st Field Artillery in England.
In 1947, he was united in marriage with Beulah Flinn. This union was later dissolved.
Albert was a farmer in Jewell and Mitchell Counties for many years before retiring in 1985. Following his retirement, he traveled to Texas and Arizona for many winter months, and enjoyed spending his spare time woodworking.
He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church, and was a life member of the Beloit VFW Post #6242.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Tom, Ernest, Jim, Kenneth, and Loran Schaffer.
He is survived by a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 19 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home, where a rosary service will be held at 6:00 PM Friday. Memorials may be given to the St. John's Memorial Trust Fund or the Beloit Senior Citizens Center.
