Alfred N. Stroh

September 14, 1928 — July 9, 2013

Alfred N. Stroh
Alfred Nelson Stroh was born September 14, 1928 to Joseph E. and Grace A. Nelson Stroh on a farm near Cawker City, Kansas. He departed this life at 84 years, 9 months and 25 days on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
"Al", as he was known by all, graduated from Cawker City High School and on June 1, 1955 married Norma Jean Gholson at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beloit. Two sons Lindsay and David were born to this union.
A man of many talents, Al did a number of things during his life. After his marriage, they lived on a farm south of Cawker City until the construction of Lake Waconda in 1965 forced them to relocate. They moved to Downs and he worked for Richardson Manufacturing as a welder and later worked for the Gambles Store and Post Office in Downs. He joined the Postal Service and from 1974 until his retirement in 1990 he was Post Master in Tipton at which time they moved to Cawker City, and in about 2002 moved to Beloit. They moved to Wichita in 2008 to be near their sons.
Always positive and upbeat, Al loved people and made friends easily. He cherished his family and loved being with them. He enjoyed hunting, camping, playing cards, doing light mechanical work on his vehicles and working in his garden. Al served as a Cub Scout leader and Scout Master.
He was a member St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Beloit and the Knights of Columbus of Downs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph and Lawrence Stroh, and sisters Irene Cole and Arlene Samland.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Norma of Wichita; sons Lindsay Stroh of Wichita, David Stroh and wife Sherry of Wichita; daughter-in-law Kelli Stroh of Wichita; five grandchildren Krysten Stroh, Andrew Stroh, Matthew Stroh, Rochelle Stroh and Amanda Stroh; a host of many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
