Alfreda A. Gasper

Alfreda Applonia Gasper was born on December 8th, 1917 in Osborne Co. Kansas, the daughter of Conrad and Catherine (Scheer) Streit.  She died Friday, May 18, 2018 at her home in Tipton, KS at the age of 100 years, 5 months, 10 days.

Alfreda grew up on the Streit family farm near Tipton, where she attended country school until the age of 9 when the family moved a half mile south of Tipton and finished out her schooling in town. A few summers she went to Pampa, TX to help her grandparents with their laundry business.

On April 20, 1937, she was united in marriage with Edward G. Gasper at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton.  Eleven children were born to this union. They raised their family on the farm north of Tipton for 45 years.  Upon Ed's death she moved to town where she lived out the rest of her years.  Alfreda enjoyed her family, raising 11 children while working the many aspects of farm life, along with tending her flower gardens, helping with her many grandchildren, quilting and baking.

Alfreda was a member of the St. Boniface Church, St. Ann's Altar Society, Tipton Senior Center and the American Legion Auxillary for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edward; children, Eugene and Judith Gasper; grandsons, Craig and Travis Gasper; great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Kendra Gasper; sons-in-law, William Maginness and Howard Duffy; sisters, Matilda Budke, Dorthy (Jacobs) Budke, Christina Braun; brothers, Leo and Gerard Streit.

Alfreda is survived by her children, Rosalie Maginness of Concordia, Edward (Dianne) of Victoria, Madonna Duffy of Tipton, Leroy of Tipton, Alan (Maria) of Marquette, Glenn (Patsy) of Yuba City, CA, Neal (Judy) of Cawker City, Annette (Lyle) Muths of Tipton, Regina (Kaywin) Bryant of Halstead; sister, Veronica Snider of Greeley, CO; 24 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, May 23 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. A rosary service will be at 7 PM & visitation will be from 5 PM until the rosary service begins on Tuesday, May 22  at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Masses or the Tipton Endowment Fund.
