Alice A. Golladay

March 6, 1931 — July 1, 2014

Alice Ann Golladay was born March 6, 1931, in rural Ellsworth County, Kansas to C.F. Handlin and Hester Ann Lang Handlin. She departed this life Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in her new home in Prairie Village, Kansas, at the age of 83.
Alice grew up on a farm in Ellsworth County. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1949 and then pursued studies in Home Economics for two years at Kansas State University where she met Richard Golladay on a blind date. They were married on December 30, 1951, and their marriage was blessed with six children: David, Roy, Charles, Margaret Ann, Vernon, and Mary Alice.
Alice was an Eastern Star member and a 4-H leader. She was an award-winning seamstress and made beautiful wedding and birthday cakes. Her homemade pickles and jelly were family favorites. She judged foods and clothing at surrounding fairs. She started selling Avon as a hobby, but it soon became her passion. That passion, however, paled in comparison to her life-long devotion to K-State.
In their later years, Richard and Alice enjoyed playing cards and bingo with their friends. They taught their children and grandchildren how to play cards and dominoes, and many family gatherings ended with a game.
Alice was preceded in death by her son David, husband Richard, parents, brothers Paul, Robert, Roy, Dale, and Ben, sister Fae, and grandson Jason Golladay.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her brothers Ralph and Max Handlin, and children Roy and wife Denise of Ionia, Michigan, Charles and wife Marsha of Lenexa, Kansas, Margaret Hartman and husband Curtis of Prairie Village, Kansas, Vernon and wife Gretchen of Auburn, Kansas, Mary Hensley and husband David of Kansas City, Missouri, fifteen grandchildren, and many friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 5 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit. Visitation will be from 1-5 PM Friday, July 4 at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Osborne County 4-H or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
