Allene Belden

January 23, 1916 — July 9, 2007

Lela Allene Belden was born January 23, 1916 to Nicholas Franklin and Ada Mae Conn Motes on a farm near Scottsville, Kansas. She departed this life of 91 years, 5 months, and 17 days Monday morning, July 9, 2007 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit.

Allene, as everyone knew her, attended grade school at Scottsville and then graduated from Randall High School.

On February 7, 1937, she was united in marriage to Wayne Belden at Beloit, Kansas. This happy union was blessed with two children Gary and Sandra.

After living on several farms in the area, in 1947, they settled on a farm near Wayne's birthplace. She loved farm life and was always eager to help out with the tasks at hand.

Always on the go, Allene had a spunky zest for life. Quick to lend a hand, she enjoyed helping others. Allene loved quilting and for many years was a 4H sewing instructor. Quieter moments were enjoyably spent refinishing furniture for others and her home. Saturday evenings were happiest spent dining, dancing, and card playing with her large group of friends.

She was a member of First Christian Church, the church Quilting Circle, Scottsville PollyAnna Club, Rural Anns and the HDU.

Her husband Wayne died in 1995. In addition to her parents, Allene was preceded in death by one brother Gerald Motes, and two sisters Fern Allred and Helen DeWalsche.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Gary Belden and wife Karen, Sandra Elder and husband Lee all of rural Beloit; one sister Ruth Berndt of Whorton, Texas; six grandchildren Tim Belden, Tom Belden, Shannon Elder, Shawn Elder, Terri Etter, Traci Kadel, twelve great grandchildren, and a host of many relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at First Christian Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church Quilters, and friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
