Arthur Mccorkle

November 24, 1940 — July 15, 2008

Arthur Wesley McCorkle was born November 24, 1940 in Beloit, Kansas to Allen Winston and Esther (Altergott) McCorkle. He passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at his home in Beloit at the age of 67 years, 7 months, and 21 days.
While growing up in Beloit, Arthur attended Beloit public schools and became a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Arthur, along with his mother who was his Den Mother, was involved in Cub Scouting and Boy Scouts. He had a Beloit Daily Call paper route, and also delivered the Grit paper as a young boy. He enjoyed working in the family garden, especially when Pete Hyman would come over to plow the garden plot with his horse team. He and his siblings would walk behind and pick up fish worms for later fishing trips he and his brother David would take to the Solomon River.
In 1960, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and three years in Germany. When he returned to the US in 1964, he made his home in Alma, Nebraska, where he worked at Carl Goings International Harvester Company as a mechanic. During the next several years, Arthur worked for Moritz Implement in Beloit, and with different custom harvesters, as well as an over-the-road truck driver.
In 1972, he married Shirley Kuehn in Alma. To this union four children were born: Christina, Arthur Jr. (JR), Wilbur, and Michael. Parental rights were severed and Christina, Art Jr., and Michael were adopted. Wilbur died shortly after birth.
Arthur enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially enjoyed spending time watching TV and talking about hunting and fishing with his great-nephew Wyatt Sporleder.
Arthur was preceded in death by his son, Wilbur; his parents; a brother, Daniel; and two nephews, Claude Willis (Willie) Wright IV and William Cecil Sporleder Jr.
He is survived by one brother, David of Wichita; four sisters, Margaret Sporleder of Beloit, Beverly Kindler of Alma, Esther McKinley of Glade, Kansas, and Josephine Melroy of Ravenna, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 19 at Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday at McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Cub Scout Pack 99 or Meals on Wheels.
