Avon Dale Luckey was born March 4, 1939 to Lewis and Dorothy Staley Luckey on a farm near Glen Elder, Kansas. Following a courageous battle with lung cancer, Avon departed this life of 71 years, 5 months and 24 days Saturday evening at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
A 1957 graduate of Glen Elder High School, Avon lived nearly all of his life in the vicinity of where he was born.
On November 29, 1959, he married Lois Elenora Stout at Beloit, Kansas. Three children Sandy, David, and Randy were born to this union. Besides their children, Avon and Lois were foster parents for several children.
At an early age, Avon learned how to work hard. His first job was with the Missouri Pacific Railroad, working as a trackman. He later worked as a miller for the COOP Feed Mill, a job which he enjoyed doing for 33 years. He then became an employee of the City of Beloit, working in the Parks and Recreation Department. He took pride in doing whatever task assigned to him to the best of his ability.
Besides working, Avon enjoyed his family. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, boating, and fishing with them. Avon enjoyed going motorcycle riding. Close to his brothers and sisters, Avon always looked forward to taking a trip to see them.
His parents, brothers Donald, Howard, and Lawrence Luckey, and a granddaughter Ashley Housh preceded him in death.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Lois of the home; children Sandy Housh and husband Dwight of Concordia, David Luckey of Beloit, Randy Luckey and wife Mary of Goddard, Kansas; two sisters Donna Lehman and husband Sam of Hutchinson, Virginia McClane of The Dalles, Oregon; three sisters-in-law Leona Luckey of Paola, Kansas, Mary Luckey of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Erma Luckey of Cawker City; four grandchildren Alan & Devon Housh, Alyssa and Megan Luckey. Avon will be missed by countless friends and many relatives.
Graveside Services will be 11 AM Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Naomi Cemetery near Glen Elder. The funeral procession to Naomi Cemetery will leave McDonald Funeral Home at 10:15 A.M. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice. Friends may call from 9 AM-8 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
