Barbara Pruitt

Barbara Lee Street Pruitt was born at the Fairmont Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri on October 7, 1933 and died peacefully at home on July 20, 2010. She was the daughter of Albert Leroy Street and Charlotte James Street. She married the love of her life, Donald Pruitt on May 27, 1951, only a few days after graduating from Beloit High School. She and Don had four children: Belinda, David, Daniel, and Dennis. Dennis died in 1961.
She was a city girl who learned to love farm life as much or more than Don.
When they moved to Beloit nearly 5 years ago, she was the one who struggled with the move to town. She was his partner in the farming operation, shared in Don's Outstanding Young Farmer Award, and anyone in the county and surrounding counties knew they could count on a hot meal at dinner if they were in the area. Many an animal was warmed and fed in her basement. In the early, 1980's, she attended North Central Kansas Technical College and completed a business certificate. She then worked part-time for several years at the Beloit Livestock Auction. She was active in numerous organizations serving as a Past President of PEO, Chapter K. She was also a member of Delphian Club. She was active in the Beloit Presbyterian Church serving as both Elder and Deacon, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served on a number of Northern Kansas Presbytery Committee's and United Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Beloit Country Club. She was an active 4-H leader teaching many young girls to sew and was an accomplished seamstress making and tailoring many clothes for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was on the Beloit Fair Board until her health no longer allowed her to participate in the fair. She was an avid bridge player, enjoying many hours of bridge with friends and Don. She enjoyed instructing a water aerobics class. She recent assisted in the establishment of a cancer support group that meets at the Beloit Presbyterian Church. She and Don enjoyed traveling especially to Las Vegas and Branson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on July 18, 2010, son Dennis, parents, and sister Parthene Michels, She is survived by daughter Belinda Childs (Richard) of Wichita, and sons Dave (Kasey), Dan (Tamarah), grandchildren Chris (Tara) Pruitt, Katie (Adam) Cheney, Nicole (Michael) McLain, Brad Pruitt, Jeff Pruitt, all of Beloit, Brandon and Allison Childs of Wichita and Mary Wethington (Joseph) Lexington, KY. There are four great grandchildren, Bently Pruitt, Shea Larson, Reagan Cheney, and Owen McLain. A sister Diane (Wally) Hollingshead and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Darrell) Dierks of Cottonwood, AZ as well as eight nieces and nephews.

Joint funeral services for Barbara and Don will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
