Barbara Quakenbush was born on the family farm in Scottsville, KS on January 16, 1923 to Miles and Stella (Birch) Allen. She departed this life on March 28, 2017 at Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home at the age of 94 years. She grew up in Scottsville and attended Scottsville grade school with her sisters Marjorie and Shirlie. The family moved to Beloit after the depression and dust bowl. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1941. In 1947 she married Rex Quakenbush of Beloit and made their home here together until his sudden death in 1985. To this union were born 2 children, Anita and Allen. They were active members of the First Christian Church and she was the third grade Sunday school teacher for over 30 years. She was also church treasurer. Barbara worked at the First National Bank for 40 years with her sister Shirlie. She was a member of the local QueBene club for 70 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rex, and son Allen. Her sisters, Marjorie Schaffer and husband Loren and Shirlie Schmidt and husband Paul. Left to mourn are her daughter Anita Winzenried; grandchildren Adam Winzenried and wife Hillary of Overland Park, Kansas and Kelli McRae and husband Josh of Overland Park, Kansas. 3 great-grandchildren, June Winzenried, Keegan and Kade McRae, 4 nephews, Dick and Bob Schaffer and Paul and Pat Gengler. A memorial service will be held on April 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the McDonald-Roberts Funeral Home. Followed by an inurnment at the Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit.
