Benny L Evans

December 4, 1936 — September 2, 2015

Benny Lyle Evans was born December 4, 1936 to Jesse and Wilma Kornmeyer Evans at Luray, Kansas. He departed this life late Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at his home in Scottsville, Kansas at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 28 days.

Benny graduated from Luray High School in the Class of 1954 and on April 7, 1957 married Loretta June Murphy. Four children: three sons David, Bradley, and Ricky, and one daughter Sherry were born to this union. Ricky died shortly after birth.

For many years, Benny and his family lived on a farm in Luray, Kansas. He raised cattle and also had a dairy herd for several years. He was a true cowboy at heart and loved working cattle, preferably on the back of a horse. He was no stranger to hard work, but above all, his favorite place in life truly was on the back of a horse. After many years along with declining health, Benny and Loretta sold their farm and moved to Scottsville to be a bit closer to family.

A friendly, talkative person, Benny enjoyed people. He could visit with just about anyone for hours on end, especially about his love of horses. Benny loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Benny enjoyed watching television and spent many hours watching RFD TV, wrestling, rodeos, and listening to country music.

He attended the United Methodist Church.

His parents, and one beloved infant son Ricky Evans preceded him in death.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Loretta; children David Evans and wife Barbara of Ottawa, Kansas, Bradley Evans of Plainville, Kansas, Sherry Marr and husband Tom of Formoso, Kansas; one brother Kenny Evans of Kiowa, Kansas; two sisters Marion Oetting of Hays, Kansas, Evelyn Aumiller of Lenora, Kansas; four grandchildren Rocky Evans, Michele Evans, Kristine Evans, Tyler Marr; four great-grandchildren Dalton and Sophie Evans, Hunter and Gage Seifeld; and many longtime friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home with burial in the Scottsville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Scottsville Community Church or the Scottsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday.
