Bernard 'David' Neubert, 69, of Monterey California, died Tuesday, June 27th, 2023 at Austin Hospice Christopher House. David was born August 19th, 1953 in Fort Benning, Georgia to Bernard "Barney" Edward Neubert & Barbara Ann Beers.
He married Terri Elizabeth Wilson May 9th, 1981 in Wichita, Kansas. Two sons were born to this union, Joshua Michael Neubert, born October 14th, 1984 and Bernard Jacob Neubert, born August 16th, 1986. They were privileged to be married nearly 35 years when she died in April, 2016.
David studied at the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Texas at Austin. He was the Professor of Double Bass at the University of Texas in Austin, Principal Bassist in the Austin Symphony and Doctorate of Music in Fine Arts. Neubert spent the bulk of his career at UT-Austin, where he served as Professor of Double Bass between 1982 and 2011. During these decades he also offered laudable service as the Principal Bass of the Austin Symphony, Ballet, and Opera Orchestra. Upon his retirement from his professorial role, Neubert spent a further four years serving as the department's Director of Instructional Technology. Neubert also played a key role in the development of the International Society of Bassists and hosted its conventions at UT-Austin and at Interlochen in 1986 and 1993 respectively.
In retirement, he renewed his passion for flying as a private airplane pilot, and certified as VFR (visual flight rules), and IFR (instrument flight rules).
David is survived by his two sons, Joshua of Austin, and BJ of Beloit, and his sister, Michelle Neubert.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM Friday, July 7 at the Beloit Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 3-7 PM with family present from 3-5 PM on Thursday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Church.
