Bernice A. Reames

Bernice Alberta Reames was born December 16, 1922 to George Albert and Elsie Belle LaRue Abram on a farm near Jewell, Kansas. She departed this life of 85 years, 3 months, and 12 days early Friday morning, March 28, 2008 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.

Bernice spent her childhood years growing up in the Jewell community and graduated from Jewell High School. She continued her education at Emporia State Teachers College and then taught school at Scottsville and Jewell for a few years.

On June 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Armon Arlin Reames at Jewell, Kansas, and to this union were born three sons Galen, Curtis, and Larry. They began married life living in the Scottsville area, later moving to the family farm between Scottsville and Jamestown. In 1981 Bernice made her home in Beloit.

A kind, rather quiet person, Bernice treasured her faith, family, and music. Bernice loved playing the piano, and for countless years, was the church pianist at the Scottsville Community Church. Always a woman of great faith, she did not let adversity get in her way. Her family was always a great source of joy for her and she enjoyed being with them whenever possible. Bernice was an avid reader and enjoyed working puzzles of all types.

She was a member of the Scottsville Community Church and the Polly Anna Circle.

Bernice was preceded in death by her youngest son Larry in 1976, her husband Armon in 1979, and a grandson Parker in 1996.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Galen Reames and wife Laura of Yuba City, California, Curtis Reames and wife Dee of Jamestown; two sisters Pauline Reiter of Mankato, June Butts and husband Gene of Jewell; two brothers Willis "Bill" Abram and wife Martha of Jacksonville, Florida, Stanley Abram of Jewell, Carolyn Abram of Jewell; five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Moynihan officiating. Interment will follow in Scottsville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Scottsville Community Church. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
