Berniece E. Gouldin began her journey with us on September 27, 1924 on a farm east of Beloit, Kansas. She was born to Leo Francis and Edith Jane Hamilton Gholson. And, after being with us for 90 years, 3 months, and 22 days, she was called home on January 19, 2015 to begin her eternal journey with Jesus and to join those who have gone on before her.
Berniece attended Beloit High School and graduated in the Class of 1942. Her first job was a telephone operator in Beloit. She then transferred to work as a telephone operator in Topeka for one year before returning to Beloit where she worked her way up to being Assistant Chief Operator.
She met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Gouldin at a dance in the Beloit Municipal Building across the street from where she worked. And on March 16, 1951 they were united in marriage and made their home on Bob's family farm northeast of Barnard. Berniece quit her job with the telephone company and began working at the bank in Barnard where she was a teller until 1965 when their son Rodney was born. Then, in the early 1980's she was a part-time helper on the Special Ed bus for the Lincoln School District. Aside from her jobs, she enjoyed helping Bob on the farm and raising Rodney.
At an early age, Berniece joined First Christian Church in Beloit and then after her marriage joined the Barnard United Methodist Church.
Throughout her years, she kept in touch with her co-workers of the telephone office and enjoyed getting together with them when she could and tell old stories of the switchboard days. She enjoyed growing up with her nephews Ronald and Gordon File, riding their pony Daisy and swinging on the grapevine on the creek. Throughout her life she enjoyed visiting family and friends and fishing with her son. Throughout her life's ups-n-downs she tried to keep her smile and kept the spirit of you have to keep trying to do your best and trust through prayer that God would do the rest.
In addition to her parents, Berniece was preceded in death by her husband Robert; two brothers Glen and Ray Gholson and two sisters Lota Gholson and Telva File.
Left to mourn her passing to Heaven is her son Rodney of the home, her family and friends.
