Berta Lou grew up and graduated high school in Young America, Indiana.  She went to Purdue College in Lafayette, Indiana.   Berta worked at the State Hospital.  Soon after her employment she met the love of her life, William "Bill" Laverne Siegrist.  They were united in marriage on June 7th, 1953.  Four of their children were born in Indiana.  In April of 1959, the family moved to Simpson, Kansas where Bill grew up. Three more children were added after arriving in Kansas.

Berta had many jobs.  She worked at Pizza Hut, Best Western, Waconda Motel and Catlin's in Beloit.  In Delphos, Kansas she was employed by Klein Oil.  Berta had an amazingly beautiful voice.  Berta loved and enjoyed singing with Faye Pearson.  They performed together at many weddings and funerals. Another hobby that her husband and Berta did together that kept them busy was raising dogs, camping and fishing.

When Berta stopped working, she loved to play with her dogs, watching old movies and musicals.  This woman could shop for hours upon hours.  If there was a social gathering, Berta was capable of cooking for an army.
