Betty Louise Bohnert was born April 3, 1931 to Clark Raymond and Dora May Mallory Bailey on a farm near Randall, Kansas. She departed this life of 81 years and one month late Thursday evening, May 3, 2012 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
Betty started first grade in a one room country school. Her family moved to town where she finished grade school and later graduated from Jewell High School in the Class of 1949 as Valedictorian.
On June 25, 1950, she married Marion Omer Bohnert. Two daughters Kathleen and Jo were born to this happy union. They made their home at 419 North Lincoln in 1952. Her husband Marion was a jeweler, having attended the Kansas City School of Watchmaking and serving his apprenticeship in Savannah, Missouri. He later worked for Charlie Price, Earl Canfield and Greif Jewelers before opening his own shop which he enjoyed until his retirement.
For many years, Betty worked as a professional bookkeeper. People knew they could trust her, as she was very meticulous in her work. She had several clients including Greif Jewelers.
A kind hearted person, Betty loved sewing and homemaking, frequently cooking from scratch. She enjoyed gardening and canning. Betty loved being with her family. Quieter moments were fondly spent reading, especially informational material in order that she could learn.
She was a member of the Jewell Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Her parents, sister Nell Hanchett and husband Robert preceded her in death.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her husband Marion of the home, daughters Kathleen Bohnert of Beloit, Jo Bohnert of Salina, Kansas; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at First Christian Church in Jewell. Burial will follow in the Wallace Cemetery east of Jewell. Memorials may be given to the church or the American Cancer Society. Friends may call from 9 AM until 8 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
