Betty Jenkins Brock, age 86 of Springfield, Missouri passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 in Springfield, Missouri. She was born to Harry and Lenore Jenkins on January 16, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri. Betty grew up in Kansas City where she displayed a passion and talent for ballet dancing. She attended Kansas State University and became a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.


Betty was united in marriage to John R. Brock of Glasco, Kansas and they were privileged to spend 56 years together. During their early years of marriage, Betty was a loyal army wife moving with John to many locations as he served his country for five years. After World War II, they moved to Glasco where John engaged in farming. Betty was active in community affairs. She was a member of the Glasco Methodist Church and served as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. She was active in the school system serving as room mother and actively supporting her sons in their sports activities. Betty became very involved at the Nicol Home where she befriended many of the residents. Betty took up golf later in life but made up for lost time when she and John became members of the country clubs at Glasco, Beloit, and Concordia. She loved to entertain, both for their adult friends and their sons' high school friends. Betty had a particular loved of dancing, and taught ballet and ball room dancing to many of the Glasco young people. She and John later sold their Glasco home and retired to Phoenix, Arizona where they continued to entertain, dance, and golf. They moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1995 due to John's failing health.


Betty was preceded in death by her husband John in 1997, her parents Harry and Lenore Jenkins, a sister Carolyn Fulkerson, and a great grandson Brock Moran.


Betty leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life a son Tom Brock and wife ChiChi and son Christopher of Douglas, Arizona, son Jim Brock and wife Suzanne of Springfield, Missouri; a foster son Ned Rychel and wife Diane of Overland Park, Kansas; granddaughters Stacy Forbis and husband Matt of Nixa, Missouri, Krista Moran and husband Jeff of Louisville, Kentucky, Jayme Butler and husband Caleb of Nashville, Tennessee, and Lindsey Brock of Baylor University; great grandchildren Natalie and Isaac Forbis, Kara and Anna Moran and two expected in May, 2008.


Memorials may be made to the Glasco Community Foundation in care of Dorothy Martin, 307 North Railroad, Glasco, Kansas 67445.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. Saturday at the Dean Funeral Home followed by Graveside Services at 11:00 A.M. in the Glasco Cemetery.
