Betty Jean Henderson was born on October 18, 1945, in Hastings, Nebraska, the daughter of Melburn E. and Florence L. Heath Taylor. She died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at the Long Term Care Unit in the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 60 years, 3 months, and 21 days.
Following graduation from high school she lived in several places before settling in Clay Center. She worked in various service positions throughout her life.
Betty enjoyed taking long drives, reading Western books, cooking, and had a special appreciation for Angels. She greatly enjoyed her time playing with her grandchildren, and she opened her heart to others outside her family, and made them feel welcome.
She was a member of the Eagle's Lodge in Clay Center, and was active in many Multiple Sclerosis drives, as well as several Indian Nation affiliates.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Steven "Petey"; one daughter, Tammy; two grandchildren; three brothers, Chuck Jr., Earl Jr., and Jack; and two sisters, Holly and Arloa.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Taylor of Florida, and Charles Mallory of Beloit; four daughters, Terri Hicks of Tobias, Nebraska, Sandy Stovall of Glen Elder, and Ann Hogan and Crystal Woerman, both of Clay Center; one sister, Joann Smith of McPherson; 19 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 11, at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit with burial at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Family Expense Fund.
