Betty Jean McKee was born July 24, 1926 to Ray and Lillian Barker Briney at Beloit, Kansas.
She departed this life of 88 years early Monday, March 23, 2015 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas.
Betty grew up in Beloit. She graduated from Beloit High School in the Class of 1946.
On November 12, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth W. McKee at the United Methodist Church in Beloit. Four children Michael, William, Susan, and Stephen were born to this union. They lived on a farm in the Asherville community for several years, and later moved to Glen Elder.
For many years, Betty and her family lived in New Haven, Indiana. Kenneth worked for Magnavox Corporation. While in New Haven, Betty became a beautician. Stephen died in 1970 and Kenneth died in 1974.
A strong willed, good hearted person, Betty had a deep love for her hometown of Beloit. No matter where she was, Beloit was always home to her, and she moved back in 1977. She loved taking care of infant children and was always there for her family. Betty enjoyed crocheting until her hands no longer allowed her to do so. She was an avid reader. Betty enjoyed birds and loved her parakeets.
She was a member of the New Life Assembly of God.
Her parents, son Stephen, husband Kenneth, and brother Raymond Briney preceded her in death.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Michael McKee and wife Rose Ann of Anderson, Indiana, William McKee of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Susan Bales and husband Robert of Park City, Kansas; two grandchildren Tony and Kenny McKee; 2 great grandchildren Elayna McKee and Emma McKee.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the New Life Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
