Betty Jean Sibley was born on December 28, 1924 in Glen Elder, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Alta Jean Durham Mott. She died early Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at the Mitchell County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 16 days.
She grew up and attended school in the Glen Elder area.
On June 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harold D. Sibley in Beloit, and a host of children were born to this union. They were privileged to spend more than 57 years of marriage together until Harold's death in December 2004.
The family continued to make their home in Beloit, where she spent her time with her children at home. She loved her family and was a hard worker.
Betty loved to play BINGO, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #6242.
In addition to her husband Harold, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Harold and Rory Sibley, and Richard Peterson; one granddaughter, Christina Peterson; and one sister, Helen Spratlen.
Betty is survived by six sons, Jesse Peterson II and his wife Gloria of Pineville, LA, Frederick Sibley and his wife Jayne, and Randy and his wife Dawn, all of Beloit, Rex and his wife Marian of Scottsville, Ray Don and his wife Chong of Fayetteville, NC, and Gary and his wife Joanne of Red Cloud, NE; six daughters, Janis Koch and Ken Pelc of Hastings, NE, Barbara Anderson and her husband James of Lincoln, NE, Carol Thompson and her husband Phil of Beloit, Rose Hearen and her husband Ronald of Tomball, TX, Diane Jones and her husband Curtis of Oxford, NE, and June Ellis and her husband Todd of Great Bend; one sister, Martha Bowles and her husband Robert of Glen Elder; 37 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, March 16 at the McDonald Funeral Home with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice, Zion Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary Post #6242, or the Morrison House of Salina.
