Cathern Elizabeth Johnson died Friday, July 19, 2013 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 95.
Elizabeth, as she was known, was born July 24, 1917 at her parents home in Solomon Rapids Township in Mitchell County, Kansas to Evan and Anna Weir Abbott.
While growing up, she attended District No. 66 (Center) School, Beloit High School and graduated from Quinter, Kansas Rural High School in 1934. After graduation she obtained her certificate for teaching and taught two terms in Sheridan County, Kansas. She later completed a course at Central Beauty College in Wichita, Kansa and was employed at the Siegel-Chitwood Beauty Salon in Beloit and also became the proud owner of her own beauty salon, The Dainti Kurl shop that was a home- based business.
On February 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Harry Leroy Johnson in Salina, Kansas. To this union two daughters were born; Jane Ellen who died in infancy and Rebecca Ann.
Elizabeth lost her mother at a very young age and spent many hours with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins while her father was working.
She was a quiet, sweet person who never wished to be the center of attention and focused on making a wonderful home for her husband and daughter.
Her hobbies included flower gardening, especially roses and genealogy. After her retirement she spent many hours doing genealogy work, not only for herself but also for others.
Her parents, an infant daughter, and her husband preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter Rebecca (Gene) Underwood, Burr Oak, KS; three half brothers Howard Abbott, Winston-Salem, NC, Lyle Abbott, California, MO, Maurice Abbott (Sue), Terrell, TX; one half sister Harriet Bryant, California, MO; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Cliff Heagy officiating. Burial of the ashes will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church, NCK Genealogical Society or Solomon Valley Hospice. Elizabeth chose cremation and there will be no visitation.
