A short time later, she met Al Street and the couple were married and she became the loving step mother to Al's daughter Barbara. In the spring of 1949, she and Al purchased the landmark Bartleson home just east of the Mitchell County Courthouse and made it into the Victorian home it was meant to be.
Charlotte treasured her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved making clothes for her grandchildren. In addition, she loved oil painting and spent many hours in her workroom painting and sewing. She cared for her mother, Parthene James until her death. Charlotte always enjoyed having her grandchildren and great grandchildren visit and was always there for them.
Besides her family, Charlotte was a consummate hostess who taught her daughters how to correctly set a table, complete with silver, silverware, and linen. She was always proper in everything she did. She also cherished time with her friends and enjoyed playing bridge. In addition, Charlotte loved to travel and took numerous trips including one to Alaska.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and served as the church treasurer for many years. In addition, she was a member of several clubs including Euterpe, Presbyterian Women, and the PEO, having served as State President of PEO in 1969-70.
