Corlyn Adams, 84, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011. She was born September 28, 1926 in Beloit, Kansas to the late Charles B. and Hazel Holbrook. She attended public schools in Beloit, graduating from Beloit High School in 1944, and attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She was employed as clerk of the board of education for 2 ½ years.
In the spring of 1961, she met Henry Robert Adams in Sunday school at Country Club Christian Church. They were married October 28, 1961. They moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1965, and to Ft. Worth in 1969. Corlyn became a licensed nursing home administrator in 1973 and, along with Henry, owned four nursing homes in Texas until they were sold in 1984.
Corlyn became interested in genealogy and spent a lot of time traveling and researching. This eventually led to a book, "The Jose Family – Utah by Way of Australia." She was selected to be in "Who's Who in the Southwest," "Who's Who in Science and Medicine" and "Who's Who in the World." She was a member of the Mayflower Society, in which she took great pride and the Huguenot Society, a French Protestant organization, through her mother. She was a 25-year member of the DAR, the Society of New England Women, Fort Worth Lecture Group, and was listed in the Fort Worth Social Directory. After a 50-year membership in the Eastern Star, she became a life member.
She took great pride in her home and was especially proud of her son, Charles. She and Henry enjoy guiding and encouraging their grandchildren. After their retirement, she and Henry enjoyed traveling a great deal.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Adams; one son, Charles Adams and his fiancé, Charman Hennard; one granddaughter, Allison Freeman and her husband, Tom, of Memphis, Tennessee; and one grandson, Robert Adams of Denton.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit. There will be no visitation.
