Daisy Clarice Lowery, 87 of Beloit, passed away at 11:10 P.M. on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the MitchellCountyHospital in Beloit.

Daisy Lowery was born February 27, 1927 in Biloxi, Mississippi to Clarence Cecil Collum and Daisy Ardee Barron. When she was six months old, the family moved to Mobile, Alabama. She had an older sister and a younger brother and sister. When Daisy was in her early 20's, her mother passed away. Her father remarried and Daisy then had a younger half-sister. Daisy attended school in Mobile, graduating from MurphyHigh School (public school) in 1944. She went to college at the University of Montevallo in Alabama, graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor's degree in Food Administration. She played varsity volleyball and a game called tenniquoits while there. Daisy obtained the equivalent of her Masters degree at the CharityHospital in New Orleans. She was the head Therapeutic Dietician and Teaching Dietician for the School of Nursing at the hospital.

Daisy joined the United States Army in 1954. She was in the Women's Medical Specialist Corps that included dieticians, occupational therapists and physical therapists. In about 1956, she went to Germany where a celebration was held to commemorate women in the service. While in Germany, Daisy met her husband Rodney who was a dentist in the service and both were stationed in the 75 th GeneralHospital. Daisy and Rodney were married by the mayor of Bad Canstatt, Germany and two days later March 2, 1958 married in the hospital chapel. Their only child, a daughter Gayle was born while in Germany.

After leaving Germany, the Lowery's came to Fort Riley, Kansas then moved to San Antonio, Texas. Another moved brought them to Fort Wainright, Alaska, near Fairbanks. While in Alaska, they experienced the Great Alaskan Earthquake of 1964. Rodney spent a year in Vietnam. While in the military they were stationed at forts located in Texas, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. He retired from the military and they finally landed in Beloit in 1973 where Rodney bought into a dental practice. Daisy was his office manager, chair-side assistant and anything else he needed to run his practice.

During all of these moves around the world and even after they settled in Beloit, Daisy kept busy with her many interests. These included cooking, going fishing, reading, drawing, painting, genealogy, knitting, crocheting, crafting, and gardening.   In addition, she enjoyed learning and teaching.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rodney, siblings Louise Meyer, and Cecil Collum, Jr.

Daisy is survived by her daughter Gayle Lowery of Beloit; two grandchildren Amy and Eric Platter of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters Jeanne Hopkins and Dawn Collum both of Mobile, Alabama.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Ault-Duell officiating.  Private burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to the Amy and Eric Platter Education Fund.  Daisy will lie in state from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
