Daisy Stratton

Daisy Mae Johnston Stratton was born May 17, 1912 in Assumption, Illinois, the youngest daughter of Cornell and Millie Tapp. She died April 25, 2008 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 95 years, 11 months, and 8 days.
While still an infant, the family moved to Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1920, the family moved to Clayton, Kansas. Daisy went through grade school and graduated from Clayton High School.
In 1930, she married Morton Johnston of Brewster, Kansas, and to this union was born a son, Willis "Bud" Johnston, and a daughter, Glenda Gay. Morton died in 1947.
Daisy married Joe Stratton in 1955. He was a construction superintendent and his work took him to many of the Midwest states, east and west coasts, and Canada. They always made friends wherever they lived, and continued to keep in touch with many through the years.
Because of ill health, Joe and Daisy moved from Buffalo, Wyoming to Glen Elder in 1975. Joe died in 1982. Daisy continued to live in her home until moving to Hilltop in August, 2007.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, President of UMW, member of the choir, Chaplain for American Legion Auxiliary, and organist for the Order of Eastern Star. She also was a member of the Glen Elder Library Club, and was active in the Glen Elder Senior Center.
Daisy had a love for music, and loved playing the organ and piano and singing duets with her sister.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; one sister; and a son-in-law.
She is survived by her son, Willis "Bud" Johnston and wife Dorothy of Glen Elder; her daughter, Glenda Harris of Grand Junction, Colorado; five grandchildren, Denise Stover and husband Kevin, Shelly Kueny and husband Dave, Brent Harris, Brian Harris, and Melissa Green and husband Bryan; 12 great grandchildren, Christie Harris, Darcie Neilson and husband Tyson, Zach Stover and wife Leslie, JD Harris, Jessica Stover, Hannah Kueny, Adrienne Kueny, Samuel Kueny, Rio Green, Codie Green, Ashlee Green, and Kristina Kinney and husband Sean; and one great great grandson, Brison Neilson.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 1 at the Glen Elder Christian Church followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the Glen Elder Christian Church, Glen Elder Methodist Churh, or Donor's Choice.
