Daniel Slater Morris was born March 21, 1914 to Joseph E. and Myrtle E. White Morris at Beloit, Kansas. He departed this life of 93 years, 6 months and 3 days late Monday afternoon, September 24, 2007 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas.
"Dan", as everyone knew him, graduated from Beloit High School and attended Kansas University in Lawrence for two years.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and received his honorable discharge in October, 1945.
On October 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Ruth Higinbotham at Reno, Nevada. Two children Marcella and Jeffrey were born to this union.
Dan spent much of his working life operating the family business, Morris Clothing and Shoes which was located at 115 South Mill. He loved being able to associate with people and never knew a stranger. After many successful years, he sold the business to Calvin James and retired.
After his retirement, he worked for many years on a part time basis for Great Plains Landscape. This gave him an opportunity to share his great love and knowledge of trees, perennials and flowers with others. Keeping his home neat and trim was always important to him.
Dan was a person of honesty, integrity, and principle who always enjoyed people. He had an uncanny memory and could recall otherwise long forgotten events and details with great accuracy. He and Rosemary loved collecting antiques and were 'regulars' at many sales. He enjoyed woodworking and refinishing antique furniture. Dan had a great love for music and reading; he was fond of biographies. He loved walking until his health failed.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joe Morris, Jr., a step-brother Robert Morris, and one sister Margaret Hanni.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Rosemary of the home; one son Jeffrey Morris of Bozeman, Montana, one daughter Marcella "Marcy" Morris and husband Dennis of Shawnee, Kansas; one granddaughter; and a host of many relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 28, 2007 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Parker officating. Burial of the ashes will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Historical Society.
