Danny Fleming

April 11, 1951 — July 13, 2023

Beloit

Danny "Dano" Fleming was born April 11, 1951 to Norma (Petterson) and Charles Fleming and passed to his heavenly home after a sudden illness on July 13, 2023.  His love for music began at an early age with The Beatles appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.  He was in various bands over the years, from the time he was 14 until the day died.  He spent the most time with Billy Bob and The Bellaires, who were inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame in 2016.  He proudly served on the Kansas Music Hall of Fame board since 2006, spending countless hours volunteering his time to the advancement of Kansas music and its history.  Danny jammed with hundreds of musicians over the years, but he was happiest playing music with his sons.

While music was Dano's first love, he took the most pride in his family.  He worked for nearly 40 years at Sunflower Manufacturing but was delighted to retire to enjoy all things outdoors especially campfires with family, friends and his favorite beverage Fosters.  He loved to work and the sense of accomplishment from a job well done.  Spending hours in his garden, he also loved to grow and give away his produce.  Retirement allowed him more time for watching the Royals and the Chiefs, backyard games of catch, many rounds of Tripoli with valued friends and classmates and continuously collecting as many musical instruments and albums as possible.

In 2018 Danny was diagnosed with stage 1 throat cancer.  Through numerous trips to Manhattan five times a week for aggressive radiation treatments he never complained or missed a day in his garden.  He was a true testament to resilience, strength and grace.   He was eventually able to sing after treatment and was so happy he could do that again. He would've been 5 years cancer free on July 16th of this year.

Danny was a resident of Beloit for his entire life, graduating from Beloit High School in 1969.  He enjoyed the small town life, was truly humble, kind and never knew a stranger.  His greatest joy were his grandsons.  Danny married Lynn Vossman in November 2009, they had many happy years together, enjoyed  going to Royals games, concerts and traveling throughout the Caribbean and Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Chuck Fleming, sister-in-law Carol Fleming and brother-in-law Brian Vossman.  He is survived by his beloved wife Lynn, brother Steve, both of Beloit, sons Dustin (Vanessa) Fleming of Astoria, Oregon, Ryan (Monica) Fleming of Portland, Oregon and daughter Chelsea (Patrick) Bramhall of Saint George, Kansas, grandsons Jackson Weston and Alder Fleming and was anxiously awaiting a granddaughter arriving soon.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, July 22 at the Beloit Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with family present from 5-6 PM Friday, July 21 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Kansas Music Hall of Fame.
