Darcy Dawn Dempsey-Schmidt was born on July 16, 1976 in Concordia, Kansas, the daughter of Wayne and Jo Whipple Dempsey. She died on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 in Wichita, Kansas as a result of an auto accident at the age of 30 years, 8 months, and 25 days.
She grew up and attended school in Mankato, graduating from Mankato High School in the Class of 1995. She went on to graduate from Kansas State University, and later received her MBA from the University of Iowa.
On January 23, 1999, she was united in marriage to Jim Schmidt at the Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit. Two children, Elijah and Elaina, were born to this union. Following their marriage, they lived in Davenport, Iowa before moving to Andale, Kansas in 2004. She worked as a Human Resources Manager for Precision Pattern, Inc. in Wichita.
Darcy was full of life; she loved her family, friends, and her home, and greatly enjoyed social and sporting events.
She was a member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Wichita, and the Society of Human Resource Management. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and the Alumni Association at Kansas State University.
Darcy is survived by her husband, Jim and their two children, Elijah and Elaina, of the home; her parents, Wayne and Jo Dempsey of Mankato; two sisters, Heather Dempsey of Overland Park, and Shawna Dempsey-Mathieson and her husband Jeff of Irving, Texas; her grandmother, Maxine Dempsey of Mankato; her mother and father-in-law, LaVerne and Sherry Schmidt of Newton; one sister-in-law, Michelle Lee, her husband Darin and daughter Grace of Lee's Summit, Missouri; her grandmother-in-law, Bonnie Vetter of Beloit; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Darcy Dempsey-Schmidt, age 30, of Andale, will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 14, at Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery, Montrose, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the Darcy Dempsey-Schmidt Scholarship Fund.
