Darlene Duvall

March 4, 1939 — August 22, 2006

Laura Darlene Duvall, the youngest child of Hiram Caleb and Laura Mabel Smith Duvall was born March 4, 1939 in Simpson, Kansas. She passed away peacefully late Tuesday evening, August 22, 2006 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas at the age of 67 years, 5 months, and 18 days.

Darlene, as she was known by all of her relatives and friends, attended her first year of school at White Dove Rural School in Mitchell County and finished her grade school in Simpson. She graduated from Simpson Rural High School in the Class of 1957.

Following graduation, Darlene moved to Salina, Kansas where she was employed in banking. She also worked in food service at the Masonic Temple and for Dalrymple Catering.

When Darlene's parents began aging, she returned to her childhood home where she was their caregiver for the next 15 years. She returned to Salina in 1989 and was employed by the City of Salina in Food Service at the Bi-Centennial Center until she became ill.

In February, 2005, Darlene received the devastating news that she was suffering with cancer; she fought the disease with every ounce of determination and strength she could muster. Throughout the 11/2 year battle for her life, Darlene never gave up hope, seldom complained, and always had a smile and something to say for everyone. Her spirit never faltered.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Salina.

Her parents preceded her in death. In addition, Darlene was preceded in death by her brother Martin Duvall and wife Cleo and their son Lynn; her sister Phyllis Atchley and husband Cleo; and Richard's wife Beatrice Duvall.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her sister Marjorie Duvall who was always by her side during her fight for good health; her brother Richard Duvall of Beloit; her sister Bonnie Landrum of Portland, Oregon. In addition, she is survived by six nieces, one nephew and their families as well as a host of friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 26, 2006 at the Simpson Community Church with Pastor Troy Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Simpson Cemetery.
