Darrell DeWayne Conley, the son of DeWayne and Helen Helmbrecht Conley, was born January 26, 1934 in Beloit. He passed away June 11, 2020 at the age of 86 years.
Darrell graduated from Beloit High School with the class of 1952. He attended one year at Washburn College in Topeka. While working in Kansas City at Armour Co., he met Shirley, his future wife. They were united in marriage January 5, 1958 at Beloit. They were blessed with 3 daughters.
He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Darrell started his long career in food sales, traveling throughout Kansas making many life-long friendships. He had a strong work ethic and earned several top salesman awards. In 1968, he and Shirley purchased the Beloit Dairy Queen. They built the business from two walk-up windows to the Brazier food restaurant. They owned and operated the DQ for 11 years. Darrell returned to sales, working for a food brokerage and Beloit Motor Company before his retirement.
Darrell had a membership with the Beloit Elks Club, Eagles Lodge, and Beloit Country Club. He enjoyed keeping busy and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered by many for his great sense of humor and making people laugh.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his beloved grandson, Matt Mahin.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife, Shirley of the home; his daughters, Sherry and husband Alan Kent of Hutchinson, KS, Vicky and husband Jay Mahin of Randall, KS, and Joy Conley Hardy of Gilbert, AZ; two grandchildren, Jeff Howell and wife Kaylee of Haven, KS and Tara Mahin of Lawrence, KS; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Tuesday, June 16 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Beloit First Christian Church or Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.
