Darrell Eugene Eilert was born on February 18, 1952 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Eugene and Joye Holway Eilert. He died Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Hutchinson Regional Hospital after a short illness at the age of 68.
Darrell grew up around Beloit, where he attended school and graduated from St. John's High School. Following graduation, he attended the Beloit Vo-Tech, where he earned his degree in auto mechanics. He spent several years in the National Guard.
For many years, he spent time on the road, where he also enjoyed riding his Harley. He lived life to the fullest, but was known as a hard worker. He loved nature, and often walked the hills of Kansas. Additionally, he was known to leave Dragon's Tears in children's yards after a rainstorm for them to find. He would also leave the Dragon's Tears as a remembrance when visiting grave sites. He was a natural picker, and found treasures in things that other people didn't.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Darrell is survived by his brother Carl and his wife Ardyce of Beloit, brother Frank of Simpson, and sister Kristine Shumway and husband Charles of Cary, North Carolina; Kati and her daughters; special friends John and Cathy Logan of Granby, Colorado; and many other friends and relatives.
Family-only funeral services will be at 2 PM Tuesday, December 29 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home & will be livestreamed. Public graveside services will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Beloit. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM Monday, December 28 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Barnard Community Center.
