Darrell LaVerne Remus, the son of Gustaf and Ida Moyer Remus, was born February 3, 1927, on the family farm near Glen Elder, Kansas. He died July20, 2007, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 80 years.
Darrell grew up on the farm and attended country school. He graduated from Glen Elder High School with the Class of 1945.
On September 14, 1951, Darrell was united in marriage with Joan L. Kittel at the Glen Elder Christian Church and one daughter and two sons were born to that union. They lived on the farm until 1990, when the moved to town. The couple had been privileged to spend 50 years of married life together at the time of Joan's death in 2002.
Darrell attended the Glen Elder United Methodist Church and had been a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge. He served on the rural water district board for 27 years and held the office of president. Darrell and Joan enjoyed playing with card groups and Darrell loved to drink coffee and visit with friends.
Survivors include his children, Deborah and Gailand Walters of Lincoln and David and Christine and Scott and Donna of Glen Elder; three sisters, Hildred Bohm of Joplin, Missouri, Dorothy Bussen of Wallace, Kansas, and Virginia Schneider, Hunter, Kansas; three grandchildren, Brett, Meagan and Brandi; and Darrell's special friend, Rita Lehmkuhl.
In addition to his wife, Darrell was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 24, at the Glen Elder United Methodist Church with burial at Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church or the Mitchell County Hospital. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit.
