David Clinton Topliff

November 20, 1920 — February 19, 2008

David Clinton Topliff, the eldest son of George Henry and Lucy Ann Hostetler Topliff, was born November 20, 1920, in Jewell County, Kansas. He died February 18, 2008, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 28 days.
Clint, as he was known, graduated from Beloit High School in 1940, and operated his father's Topliff Truck Line. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic and was a gunnery instructor and trained others in maintenance on AT-6 aircraft.
On October 7, 1944, Clint was married to Virginia Zachary while home on leave. The couple greatly enjoyed traveling, especially on their Harley Davidson Motorcycle with the sidecar. Virginia died March 29, 1999.
After the war, he returned to Beloit and worked for the Chevrolet Dealerships and later opened his own auto repair shop. He also repaired TV's and other electrical appliances and was said to have built one of the first TV's to be used in Beloit. He served as a mail carrier for 24 years.
On December 21, 2001, Clint was married to Evelyn Haring Jordan and they cherished four years together until her death March 4, 2006.
Clint was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, The American Legion, Family Campers & RVers, Good Sams and the Picnic Ants. He was a licensed pilot and collector of coins, yo-yo's, model cars, model planes and old clocks.
Survivors include two step-sons, Michael and Tim Jordan of Beloit; two brothers, Francis Lee Topliff of Mountain View, Hawaii, and Guy Robert Topliff of Troy, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jenica, Mark, Tracy, Gregory and Emily Jordan; two great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wives, Clint was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clifford Ray and John Albert; half-brother, Roy and half-sisters, Ethel and Faye.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, February 22, at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given for the United Methodist Radio Broadcast Fund. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
