Dennis M. Holway

Dennis Marvin Holway was born March 22, 1927 on a farm near Beloit, Kansas, the son of William and Blossie Emmot Holway. He died suddenly Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Mitchell County Hospital at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 6 days.
Dennis grew up in the Beloit area, attended country schools, and graduated from Beloit High School in the Class of 1945.
On January 11, 1950, he was united in marriage with JoAnne Winfrey in Kansas City, Missouri. Seven children were born to this union. They were privileged to have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier in the month.
Dennis enjoyed carpentry work, and built many things for many people's homes. He loved helping people – serving as the Simpson "handyman", and spent a lot of time talking and joking with others.
He also greatly enjoyed spending his spare time reading, and came up with his own way of shelling and cracking walnuts.
Dennis was an active member of the Simpson Community Church, and was an ordained Southern Baptist deacon. He also served as chairperson and treasurer for the Mitchell County Council on Aging.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three children, Donna, Dennis Jr., and Douglas; and a brother, Roy Holway.
Dennis is survived by his wife JoAnne of the home; two daughters, Debra Bolton and husband Mike of Abilene, and Dana Garcia of Simpson; two sons, Richard and wife Marilyn, and Dale and wife Sandy, all of Puyallup, Washington; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Joye Eilert of Beloit; one brother, Richard and wife Lola of Casa Grande, Arizona; and a host of other relatives and friends.
