Diana L. Clegg, 61, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 13, 2013 at her home in Wamego. She was born June 10, 1952 at Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Phillip and Opal (Webb) Doyle. Diana attended St John's High School, graduating in 1970. She went on to attend Kansas State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1974. She received her Master's degree from Kansas University in early childhood development. Diana worked as a Paraprofessional and Special Education teacher in the Beloit and St Mary's school districts for over 28 years before retiring in 2009. Her passion for working with young children with learning limitations was a work of love. She was tireless in her patience with them and relished the challenges they brought. In later life she would see some of her prior students and beam with joy at their development. Before her death she worked part-time for Three Rivers, Inc., Wamego, KS.
Diana grew up on the family farm east of Beloit. That's where she developed her love of the outdoors and animals. She loved to fish and help her dad and brothers work on the farm. She spent time operating tractors and driving trucks. Her favorite time of the year was wheat harvest. She operated a small John Deere 45 combine and always referred to it as "her" machine. She always had a huge smile on her face when she pulled up to fill the wheat truck.
She married Michael Clegg in 1984. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Survivors include her son, Chance Calloway of Wamego, brothers Gregory Doyle (Debbie) of Topeka, Brian Doyle (Alice) of Beloit, two nephews, five nieces, two great-nephews and seven great-nieces.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Ault-Duell officiating. Memorials may be given to the Chance Calloway Education Fund or the Helping Hands Humane Society. Cremation has taken place and their will be no visitation.
