Dickie Lee File was born on July 5, 1939 on the family farm near Beloit, Kansas, the son of Cecil and Dorothy Phelps File. He died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 17 days.
He grew up in the Beloit area and attended country schools before coming to Beloit High School and graduating in 1957.
On July 30, 1966, Dickie was united in marriage with Phyllis Forgue in Concordia. One son, Bruce was born to this union.
Dickie was a farmer at heart, first working with his grandfather, and later taking over the family farmstead. During his winter months, Dickie drove trucks, working for Axtell's and for Harold Munsey at Farmway COOP. He also enjoyed spending his free time hunting, and collecting and rebuilding antique tractors. In the winter of 1979, he drove a tractor from his home to Washington DC, as part of the American Agriculture Movement.
He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church, and often attended the American Legion and VFW halls with Phyllis.
Dickie was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of the home; his son, Bruce and wife Karen of Mankato; his mother, Dorothy of Beloit; three sisters, Pauline Schlaefli and husband Larry of Hays, Irma Davison and husband Steve of Fresno, CA, and Lois Krone and friend James of Beloit; a very special Aunt Doris Schocke of Overland Park; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 25 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. A parish vigil service will be at 7:00 PM Friday, February 24 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the vigil service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the St. John's Memorial Trust Fund or the American Cancer Society.
