Donald Cox

February 3, 1931 — April 1, 2019

Beloit

Donald Wayne Cox was born on February 3, 1931 in Glade, Kansas, the son of Keith and Inez Underhill Cox. He died early Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Resident Care Center in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 88.

His family moved to Scandia when he was six years old, and later graduated from Scandia High School in 1949.

In 1951, he was united in marriage with his school sweetheart, Barbara Hammer, and they were privileged to spend 67 years of marriage together. Four children were born to this union, Dana, Doug, Dallas, and Dee.

In 1952, Don was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War. Upon returning from the service, Don inherited some farm ground, and although it was not his first choice, he became a successful farmer and accomplished a lot working together with Barbara as a team. He finally retired from farming in 2016 at the age of 85. He served as an elder at the Scottsville Church, was on the Rural Water District #3, Cemetery Board, and the LuLu Township Board.

Don was very honest, and treated people well. He was always willing to help anybody out, and never liked to ask for any help in return. He was also a very humble man, and didn't like to talk about his many accomplishments as a gifted athlete. He greatly loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in sports, and could always be spotted as one of the first ones to arrive at games.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dana; grandson, Parker Reames; sister, Betty Jo Lowman; and brother, Dean Cox.

Don is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; sons, Doug Cox and wife Kris of Beloit, and Dallas Cox and his wife Linda of Beloit; his daughter, Dee Reames and husband Curtis of Jamestown; grandchildren, Brent Cox (Jaime), Brandon Cox (Katie), Courtney Follis (Clayton), Savanna Cox, Caydren Cox, Carson Cox, Brandee Jordan (Tracy), Spencer Reames (Jennifer), and Colson Reames; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, April 3 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home followed by burial in Scottsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM with family present from 6-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Scottsville Community Church.
