Donald F. Loy

May 12, 1925 — June 25, 2007

Donald Francis Loy was born May 12, 1925 to George Emery and Minnie Pearl Donovan Loy at Barnard, Kansas. He entered Eternal Rest in the arms of Jesus, departing an earthly life of 82 years, 1 month, and 13 days early Monday, June 25, 2007 at his home in Barnard.

"Don", as everyone knew him, spent his entire life living in Barnard. He graduated from Barnard High School in the Class of 1942.

On May 16, 1943, he was united in marriage to Imojean Adams at Barnard, and to this happy union were born two children Donna and Betty. They lived on a farm southwest of Barnard for several years, later buying a farm northeast of Barnard, and in about 1954 moved into town.

Besides farming, Don was a cafe operator; he and Imojean ran Loy's Cafe for eight years, and then assisted his daughter Betty at Betty's Cafe in virtually every capacity for thirty years where he greeted everyone with more than just a pleasant smile.

A humble, friendly, and people serving person, Don loved and cherished life. He truly believed in giving unselfishly of himself to serve and help others, regardless of the situation at hand. He loved music and always could be heard humming a happy tune or favorite hymn. He was very resourceful and could repair just about anything. Though not a fish eater per se, Don loved fishing from the bridge and delighted in sharing his catch with others. His legacy of love and devotion will live on forever.

He was a member of the Barnard Baptist Church.

His wife Imojean died in 2003. In addition, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Darrell Loy who died in World War II, brothers James and Eugene Loy, and an infant sister.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his daughters Donna Busbee and husband David of Buffalo, Texas, Betty Harlow of Barnard; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of many relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 28, at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit with burial at Union Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center, the Living Faith Baptist Church Piano Fund or Union Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
