Donald Dale Spooner, of Beloit Kansas, died on June 6, 2019 at the age of 85 at the Mitchell County Community Hospital. He had retired from Wilkins manufacturing in Stockton, Kansas. Don's superior management, inventiveness, and welding skills made him a natural fit as a manufacturing foreman.
Don was born in Otego, Kansas on September 13, 1933 as the youngest child of Charles and Esther Spooner. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. He attended the Burr Oak public schools where he excelled at music and athletic activities. He was an accomplished football player and track man. After graduation from Burr Oak High School in 1951 he met Nola Mae Thompson on a blind double date with his cousin in Missouri. The relationship blossomed and they married soon after with five children born to the union.
The family moved to work at numerous jobs in Colorado and Arizona until the strong ties of North Central Kansas beckoned a return in 1966 with employment at Richardson's manufacturing in Cawker City. The family lived in Esbon, Cawker City, and Alton in order to minimize the commute to work. Don enjoyed caring for his yard and relished the countless outdoor activities at nearby Waconda Lake. He consistently planned and completed woodworking projects and home and car repair projects for both himself and his family.
Survivors include daughter Pam (Dodd) and Dale of Salina, Kansas; daughter Pat (Clay) of Salina, Kansas; daughter Connie (Bowman) and Richard of Salina, Kansas; son Larry and Debbie of Hutto, Texas; son Jason of Salina, Kansas; 14 grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
