Donald J. Swisher (Don), 82, passed away December 19, 2014, at Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, KS.
Don was born February 29, 1932 in Vesper, KS to Kyle Upton and Loretta R. (Snavely) Swisher. He graduated Vesper High School in 1950, served his country in the Army (operating 40mm anti-aircraft guns) during the Korean War from 1951-53, and graduated Brown Mackie College in Salina, KS in 1957.
Don's career with Farmway Coop in Beloit, KS spanned over 40 years. He began in March 1957 as a bookkeeper, working his way up to grain merchandiser; a position he held when he retired in May 1997. Don served on the Farmway Credit Union supervisory committee from 1957 until the time of his death.
Don met his wife of 55 years, Charlotte E. Williams, in 1958; they married on August 9, 1959.
Don was active for many years in the Jaycees, serving in virtually all leadership capacities. Together with Charlotte, Don coached baseball and softball, serving the youth of Beloit for 27 years. After retiring from Farmway, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and following K-State football. Don was also active in the local VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include: his wife, Charlotte, of the home; a son, Dr. Kyle Dean Swisher, and wife Audrey, Beloit, KS; a daughter, Cindy Lou Gordanier, and husband Jeff, Lenexa, KS; two sisters, Pauline White, Kanopolis, KS and Yvonne Nelson, Lincoln, KS; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kyle Ivan Swisher; and four children lost in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 23 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM, with family present from 6-7:30 PM Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Church or Make A Wish Foundation.
