Dorinda Shamburg

Dorinda Jean Shamburg, age 87, passed to her heavenly home on August 12, 2023. Dorinda was born on October 25, 1935 to Paul and Helen VanPelt Mears at the family farm west of Beloit. She attended a country school and graduated from Beloit High School in 1953.

While attending high school, she and Keith became an item and after she graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Physical Education, they married in 1957. After living in Denver for a few years, they returned to Beloit to start their family. To their union, three children were born. Greg, Stacy and Mike. Dorinda continued teaching at the Girls Industrial School for a few years then became a full-time mother always present for her children and grandchildren. She was the glue of the family and the rock by her husband's side. She was a voice of reason and our solid foundation.

Dorinda was very active in the United Methodist Church, PEO, Delphian and also served as the head of the Red Cross swimming program, NCK Tech School Board member, 4H and the Mitchell County Riders. She also belonged to her beloved bridge club which she continued her entire life.

Dorinda passed on her love for horses to her daughter and several grandchildren. She was very involved with helping them learn to ride, show horses and also 4H cattle. She also helped with other 4H projects such as cooking, sewing and photography. She and Keith played in many tennis and golf tournaments. They also spent many weekends camping and boating with their children. They were always present for the activities of their children and grandchildren. Other fond memories her family have are baking cookies, reading, playing tennis, playing cards and ice skating on the farm ponds.

Many people have sent messages describing Dorinda as "elegant, Classy, gracious and kind. Her family couldn't agree more and we appreciate each and every one of you. She loved you all so much.

Dorinda is survived by her children Greg (Kris), Stacy (Craig) and Mike (Peg). Ten grandchildren Kim (Michael) Martin, Kelly (Nick) Reling, Aaron (Kailee) Shamburg, Audrey (Carter) Wessling, Sasha Tyson, Nicole (Landon) Cook, Nathan Lattin, Paige Shamburg (Otis) Kouanou, Lexi (David) Templonuevo and Sierra Shamburg. Four great grandchildren Lucas, Karrigan, Maeve and Harana. Sisters Carleen Berry, Betty Drake and Brother Charles Mears and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Keith Shamburg on June 26, 2023.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Thursday, August 17 at the Beloit Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 5 PM Wednesday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the BHS Tennis Team or the Mitchell County Riders.
