Doris Lorraine Fluke Blakely, 82, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Thursday October 15, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas after a fall earlier in the day. She was born April 20, 1927 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Paul C. and Melvina Robbins Fluke. Doris graduated from Topeka High School and attended Strickler's Business College. She was a member of the Eastern Star; Jimmie Lillard American Legion Auxiliary in Rossville, KS; and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. She was a co-leader for Girl Scouts when her daughters were young. She had worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Duckwalls, and Taco Grande in Topeka.
She married Robert W. (Bob) Nelson in 1946. They lived on the Nelson farm west of Wakarusa, KS and had four daughters, Barbara, Lynn, Carol and Kathy. Doris & Bob were divorced in 1966. In 1972 Doris married the late Johnny F. Duley of Rossville, KS. In 1997 she married Robert (Bob) Blakely of Mission, TX and lived near College Station, TX until after Bob's death. Doris then moved back to her home in Mission, TX until August 2008 when she moved to Martin Creek Apartments in Topeka, Kansas.
Doris was preceded in death by daughter Kathy Gail (Steve) Craver in 1994; son-in-law Dale E. (Lynn) Howard in 1986; late husbands Johnny F. Duley in 1996 and Robert Blakely in 2002. She is survived by children Barbara Ann (Wayne) Lemon of Emporia, KS; Lynn Marie (George) Drake of Overbrook, KS; Carol Lee (Alex) Alexander of Huntsville, TX; son-in law Steve (the late Kathy) Craver; sisters Winona Sheldon, Topeka and Phyllis (Gilbert) Monteleone of Tampa, FL; brothers Sydney (Edna) Fluke and Donald (Olga) Fluke of Topeka; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Doris was cremated. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life with an informal gathering from 2-4 pm on Saturday, October 24 in the Martin Creek Apartments Community Room at 4950 SW Huntoon St, Topeka, KS. Graveside services will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, KS on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 1 pm. McDonald Roberts Funeral Service in Beloit is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions suggested to American Diabetes Association.
