Cawker City Resident, Doris Jean Brown, 79, of 1008 Holly, died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at the Mitchell County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Beloit, Kansas.
Doris was born November 26, 1927, in Fairbury, Nebraska, the first child of Lyle I. and Clara M. Zimmerman McKay. She attended school in Fairbury and Lincoln, Nebraska, and then was employed by McGrew Manufacturing Company, making shell extractors for the US Navy during World War II.
She married her sweetheart, Ray E. Brown on March 3, 1946, and they were privileged to spend 61 years of marriage together.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dennis J. McKay; and a great grandson, Zachary Brown.
Survivors include her husband, Ray E. Brown of Beloit; son, Michael E. Brown of Lenora, Kansas; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Edward Anderson of Blackfoot, Idaho; son and daughter-in-law, David and Michelle Brown of Hastings, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyle "Jim" and Betty McKay of Kearney, Nebraska, Jerry and Mary McKay of Omaha, Nebraska, and Robert and Kim McKay of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Keith Brown of Waverly, Nebraska, and Judy and Richard Chloupek of Lincoln, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, July 23, at the Cawker City United Methodist Church with burial at Prairie Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church, the Mitchell Co. Long Tarm Care Unit, or Solomon Valley Hospice. The Waconda Funeral Home, 815 West First, Cawker City, KS 67430, is handling arrangements.
