It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Doris Marie Gasper, a remarkable woman who left us at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with cancer—fought with extraordinary strength and resilience.
Doris devoted her life to serving others, especially through her longtime work with USD 273. Her unwavering commitment, kindness, and mentorship left a lasting impact on the lives of countless colleagues and students.
Doris graduated from Tipton Catholic High School in 1969 and went on to earn a degree in Business from North Central Kansas Vocational School in Beloit, Kansas. She began her professional career as an assistant secretary at Beloit Elementary School. In July 1978, she was promoted to Head Secretary and Bookkeeper—a role she served in with dedication and excellence for 21 years.
In 1991, Doris moved to the Board of Education's office as a Data Processing Secretary, and in July 1993, she was appointed Clerk of the Board, a role she held with efficiency and passion until her retirement in December 2019.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Doris was an avid seamstress known for sewing countless beautiful quilts, table runners, and dish towels, which she lovingly gifted to those around her. She also had a green thumb for gardening, cultivating vibrant flowers and vegetables with care. Doris loved traveling with her best friend, Coleene Brassfield—especially to their favorite destination, Estes Park, Colorado.
Doris is survived by her siblings: Nathalene Grief of Tipton, Kansas; Mary Ann Eck (Arnold) of Wichita, Kansas; and "Sonny" (Mary Jane) Gasper of Tipton, KS. She is also lovingly remembered by her lifelong friend Coleene Brassfield, eight nieces and nephews, ten great-nieces and nephews, and eleven great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Hilda Gasper and brother-in-law Max Greif.
In accordance with her wishes, the casket will remain closed.
