Dorothy M. Abercrombie

February 14, 1935 — November 21, 2011

Dorothy M. Abercrombie, known most of her life as Dottie, died peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the age of 76. Born in Mitchell County, Kansas, she left her wheat farming community upon graduation from Beloit High School to make her way in Denver, Colorado where she resided the rest of her life. After a brief employment with Time Magazine International Division, she began her career in the airline industry in 1957 with United Airlines in the reservations division. With the advent of computerization, she worked with at least five generations of computers. She continued to work with reservation systems through subsequent companies when United Airlines spun off there its reservation division to form a new corporation, Covia which eventually merged to form Galileo International from which she retired as a systems analyst in 1997.

Dottie's love of travel and passion for "Rving" took her throughout the United States including Alaska and nearly all of the Canadian provinces. Enjoying the beauty and magnificence of God's creation was her great joy, especially fishing in mountain lakes. She had a deep concern for the welfare of the earth and its environment as well as for all animals. She was most troubled by the lack of compassion and action on behalf of all those suffering from injustices of all kinds.

A life-long Presbyterian and woman of deep and abiding faith, Dottie was active in her church and within the Presbytery of Denver.

She is survived by her nephew Don Abercrombie of Barnard, Kansas; nieces Nancy Cook, Susan Branch, Karen Skeen and their families, and by her life partner and companion, the Reverend Janet Schlenker.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1:30 PM at Saltville Cemetery near Barnard.
