Dorothy Irene Shane was born in Red Cloud, Nebraska to Opal Shipman and Ralph Harris on September 4, 1931. She died on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Pike's Peak Care Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 76.
Dorothy attended school in Webster County and lived and worked on the family farm. She married Robert R. Shane on April 14, 1949. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska and both worked at the Navy base for several years. Their son, Steven R. Shane was born July 8, 1955. In 1957, they moved to Colorado Springs. Dorothy worked for Hewlett Packard for 18 years. Dorothy and Robert were privileged to spend more than 54 years of marriage together until his death May 7, 2003.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Colorado Springs, the Glen Elder American Legion Auxiliary, and the Colorado Springs VFW Auxiliary Post #4051.
In addition to her husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Steven R. Shane and his wife Laurie of Colorado Springs; a sister-in-law, Zada Shane of Omaha, Nebraska; an aunt, Hazel Koch of Lebanon, Kansas; 3 brothers, William and Ronald E. Harris of Holstein, Nebraska, and Michael Harris of Grand Island, Nebraska; one sister, Marlene Ruth of Del City, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 3, 2008 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Kelly Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery at Glen Elder. Memorials may be given to the Glen Elder American Legion. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
