Douglas Lee Emerson, 51, was born September 6, 1960 in Osborne, Kansas to Larry and the late Kathleen Schroeder Emerson. He grew up in Tipton, Kansas where he attended school and graduated in the Class of 1978.
On July 25, 1985 he married Keely Gentzler. This union was blessed with three children: daughter Ashley, son Cole, and daughter Lindsie.
Doug was known for his knowledge of automobiles and dirt track racing. In his professional life he had many years of experience with fertilizer and chemical applications and was currently managing the Hunter plant with Crop Production Services.
Doug enjoyed spending many weekends racing with his son Cole, spending many hours on woodworking items for family and friends and enjoying time with his twin grandsons and children.
He passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon, March 30, 2012 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Emerson and his brother, Jeff Emerson.
His survivors include his children, daughter Ashley Emerson and fiancé David Klein of Manhattan; son Cole of Assaria; daughter Lindsie and husband William Yearsin of Manhattan; son Andrew of Ottumwa, Iowa; grandsons Dominc and Owen Yearsin of Manhattan and Liam Emerson of Ottumwa, Iowa; his father Larry Emerson and wife Michelle of Beloit; brothers Roger Emerson and wife Ruth of Beloit, Kevin Emerson and wife Kerrie of Salina; sister Christy Ross and husband Phil of Topeka; sister-in-law Lois Emerson of Beloit and numerous other family and friends.
Doug will be remembered as a loving father, brother, son, grandpa and friend, and his memories will be carried on through those who knew him.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with burial in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home from 10 AM until 8 PM Tuesday where the Parish Vigil and Rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials being given to the Funeral Expense Fund.
