Duane Eldon McElroy, the son of Clifford and Emma Behrends McElroy, was born February 6, 1928, at Beloit, Kansas. He died suddenly on March 25, 2008, at his home in Salina, Kansas, at the age of 80 years, one month and 19 days.
Duane grew up and attended school in the Randall Community and graduated from Randall High School with the Class of 1950. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was stationed with his brother, Dennis aboard the USS McDermont.
Duane was united in marriage with Joan Jarvis of Jewell for 27 years and they had five children. Joan passed away January 13, 1979, and Duane later married Betty June Easter, who also preceded him in death.
Duane spent his lifetime farming the family homestead in Randall until his retirement in 2006. He and his father and son, Travis also did custom harvesting for several years. Duane greatly enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Travis and wife, Jessica of Beverly; two daughters, Ann Wheeler and Howard Houk of Salina and Dixie Fouch and husband, Terry of Las Vegas; a brother, Dennis of Salina; a step-daughter, Carla Wurtz and husband, Robert; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, Duane was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jay Lee and Jimmy; 2 brothers, Gerald and Gilbert, and a step-son, Lonnie Clawson.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 29, at the Randall Community Church with burial at the Randall Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit.
