Darus Wayne Zadina was born May 15, 1926 to Frank and Minnie Paroutek Zadina on a farm near Esbon, Kansas. He departed this life of 87 years Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.
"Bud", as he was known and loved by all, grew up on the farm near Esbon. He graduated from Esbon High School.
On October 28, 1950, he married Marjory Fern VanWey at Smith Center, Kansas. Three children Vicki, Cindy, and Steven were born to this union.
Bud faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was discharged honorably on May 7, 1953, having attained the rank of Corporal.
Bud and his family came to Beloit in 1953. He loved mechanics and worked at Beloit Motor Company until about 1981. During his working career, he saw many mechanical design changes in cars and trucks and did his best to keep up with them so that he could fix them right the first time.
Besides his work, Bud was proud of his country and community. He enjoyed membership in the American Legion Post 57 and served the Post in numerous capacities including Post Commander. When a task presented itself, Bud was there to address it. He enjoyed announcing at American Legion Baseball games. He also enjoyed helping with the Demolition Derby for many years as well as serving as a Cub Scout Leader.
Bud also enjoyed his family and home. Working in his garden and selling the produce was always a highlight of the day. He enjoyed fishing. Above all, Bud put others above himself.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Lloyd Zadina, and sisters Edna Annis, Elizabeth Layland, and Emma Zadina.
Bud will be deeply missed by his wife Marjory of the home; three children Cindy Schoen of Neosho, MO, Vicki Humiston of Hutchinson, KS, Steven Zadina of Manhattan, KS; one sister Julia Applebee of Hays, KS; one grandchild Kenda Brewster of Houston, TX; two great grandchildren Zaden and Zalie Brewster; and many relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home with Rod Rose officiating. Burial of the ashes will be in Elmwood Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Food Pantry or to Solomon Valley Hospice. Bud chose cremation and there will be no visitation.
